Who is Quinisha?

I am a curious human being and truth seeker.

I’m an indie author, entrepreneur, and educator who explores finance, careers, and life from the lens of a millennial Black woman. I founded the website Money the Wright Way in 2017 to speak on systemic barriers to reaching financial independence for Black women.

The purpose of my work is to take a holistic approach to topics like personal finance and business. One that covers more than budgeting, saving, and making six figures. Don’t get me wrong – there’s nothing awful about these goals. Still, I believe we should focus on how to enrich our lives with resources other than money.

In my early 20s, I thought financial stability meant a degree, a house, and a “good job.” Those beliefs pushed me to attend a fancy private school where I racked up student loans, shame myself for not owning a home before I turned 30, and chase jobs that ultimately made me miserable.

After lots of trial and error, I realized financial stability doesn’t come from forcing yourself into a neat little box. It’s less about doing all the things you think you “should” do, and more about doing what works for you and aligning your goals accordingly. Slowly, I let go of the goals that served no purpose in my life. I dropped out of the fancy private school. I realized I like to move around and I don’t want to buy a home right now. I stopped chasing jobs and started working for myself. Now I want to help others learn to live for themselves sooner rather than later.

Since I shifted focus to my personal definition of success, I’ve gained recognition as an authority in the finance space and landed bylines in The New York Times, Business Insider, Medium, USA Today, and more.

I work with brands like Verizon, Chime, and DollarSprout. My speaking and subject matter expertise includes panels with The Author’s Guild and Elevate Money, and media interviews with Chime, Come Write With Us, and Make a Living Writing. My book Working Twice as Hard won a Plutus Award for Best New Personal Finance Book.

I have five years of active duty military service and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 2016. Aside from writing, one of my favorite pastimes is traveling. I’ve been all over the United States, and other parts of the world including Canada, Europe, and the UAE.

I’m happy you took the time to learn more about me. If you like what you see, leave a comment, subscribe, or share this blog with a friend!
